Normal, Ill. - Molly McDowell scored 23 points to lead Southern Illinois (7-16, 3-11) to a 74-69 win over Illinois State (7-17, 5-10) earlier today at Redbird Arena. The win moved the Salukis to within two games of the eighth-place Redbirds.
The two-game series between both SIU and ISU ended the same way it did a year ago - with the visiting team winning each contest.
In a game which saw five ties and four lead changes, SIU found itself down 31-28 at the half.
Despite the fact the Saluki bench was outscored by the Redbird reserves, 41-22, SIU scored 18 of its points off 15 ISU turnovers en route to the win.
McDowell shot 8-of-17 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line to mark the lone Saluki scoring in double figures. McDowell also pulled down five rebounds and dished out eight assists.
ISU was led by Jaci McCormack who came off the bench to score 22 points on 8-of-17 field goals, including 5-of-9 three-pointers.
SIU will return home to host Bradley on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7:05 p.m.
