Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University softball team is ranked #30 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaching Association (NFCA) Top 25 poll with five votes. SIU is again one of just two mid-major teams to get votes in the NFCA Top 25 poll.
"I'm just glad we're still ranked this week after a loss last week," said Kerri Blaylock, SIU head coach.
The Salukis went 4-1 last week sweeping UAB and winning two of three over Bradley last weekend. Despite four wins, SIU fell three spots from last week's #27 ranking to its current ranking of #30.
The NFCA ranking the last five weeks is the longest SIU has been in a national poll in school history. The first 2003 ranking five weeks ago was the first since the late 1990s, when SIU was ranked in the thirties in the NFCA poll.
SIU travels to Terre Haute, Ind. this weekend to play a three-game series against Indiana State on March 22-23.
