Women's Golf Takes Ninth at EKU Lady Colonel Classic

Richmond, Ky. - Amy Rankin tied for fifth to lead the Southern Illinois women's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic which ended earlier today. Rankin's three-round score of 235 added to a team total of 982 on the two-day event.

After beginning with a 81, Rankin improved by five strokes to round out the tournament with back-to-back 77s. Rankin's second and third round scores added to a total of four in the 70s this season. Stefanie Pate, who competed as an individual, placed among the top-20 finishing tied for 19th with a 240. Pate, who carded scores of 82, 81 and 77, showed considerable improvement in each of her rounds.

Mid-American Conference members Toledo (945) and Eastern Michigan (945) shared this year's tournament crown. Xavier (947), Murray State (952) and host EKU (954) then rounded out the top-five, respectively.

SIU will conclude its season at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships on April 20-22 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
