Golfers Sweep MVC Weekly Honors

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois' Grant Goltz and Amy Rankin are this week's Missouri Valley Conference Golfers of the Week, announced today by the league office. Goltz and teammate Tim Hoss led the Salukis to their first team title of the season at the Billiken Invite, while Rankin had a fifth-place individual finish at the Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonel Classic.
Goltz, a senior from Gibson City, Ill., clubbed a season-best 68, which marked the Dawgs' third round in the 60s this season. His impressive third-round mark followed scores of 78 and 75, respectively. Tying for eighth, his top-10 finish helped SIU overcome a six-stroke deficit and top the Billiken Invite's 15-team field which saw 82 golfers compete.
Meanwhile, Rankin tied for fifth to lead the Salukis to a ninth-place finish at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic. After beginning the tournament with a 81, Rankin improved by four strokes to round out the event with back-to-back 77s. Her second and third-round scores added to a total of four in the 70s this season.
Both Goltz and Rankin marked the first Saluki golfers to win the weekly award this season.
