Price-Smith Selected as Drake Relays Referee

Carbondale, Ill. - Connie Price-Smith, head women's track and field coach at Southern Illinois University, has been selected as the referee for the women's university division at the 94th annual Drake Relays this week, April 24-26, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Price-Smith returned to her alma mater two years ago to take over as head women's coach. She was a four-time Olympian, competing in the 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000 Olympics. Price-Smith is a 25-time national champion in the shot put and discus, and became the first woman in U.S. history to be world-ranked five consecutive years in the shot put (1995-1999).
Larry Wieczorek, head track coach at the University of Iowa, has been named the referee for the men's university division. Dr. Ted Bulling, track coach at Nebraska Wesleyan, and Dick Clay, women's track coach at North Dakota, have been assigned to serve as referees of the men's college division and women's college division, respectively.
Mark Colligan, assistant track coach at the University of Nebraska, will serve as field events referee for the relays. Rex Harvey will be the multi-events referee.
