Carbondale, Ill. - Junior Alejandra Blanco was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Singles All-Select Team on Tuesday. The All-Select team is the second half of the All-Conferece Team. Blanco is one of three juniors leading a Saluki squad without any seniors, and has assumed the tough role of playing the No. 1 singles and doubles spot.
The all-conference team is comprised of one individual from each of the six singles flight classes, as well as three doubles teams from each of the doubles flight classes. In addition, six other individuals are chosen regardless of flight distinction and are named to an "All-Select" Team. Individuals earning selection to the all-conference team via the flight-selection process are not eligible for the at-large select team. The all-conference team is chosen by a vote of the coaches.
This is the first time Blanco has been named to the All-Conference team. The native of Guadalajara, Mexico finished the regular season with a 6-16 singles record overall, 4-5 in conference play. Blanco also had an 8-17 doubles record this spring, playing all but two matches with her sister and teammate, Maria Blanco.
