Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University will host Tennessee-Martin (15-16) and Evansville (18-14, 6-6 MVC) on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively at Charlotte West Stadium - Rochman Field. The games are the middle third of a nine-game homestand. The Salukis (22-6, 8-3) have only played two midweek games all season.
SIU will play UTM in a 3 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday. The Wednesday game with Evansville was moved up to 4 p.m. from the originally scheduled 6 p.m. start to avoid cold weather.
"These games are important, especially with the Wednesday game being an MVC game. We want to win that game and the doubleheader is just as important as a conference game. They're home games and we need to win them and play well," said Kerri Blaylock, SIU head coach.
SIU has beat UTM in the only meeting between the schools. Tennessee-Martin won its last two games after losing five straight. The Salukis hold a 35-13 edge in the series with the Purple Aces and are 3-4 under Blaylock against UE. Evansville won two of three from Creighton last week and lost two games to Western Kentucky midweek. SIU is in third in the Valley and the Aces are in the sixth spot.
"Evansville is much better than their record indicates. They've had some problems with not playing well at times. But when you're the hunted and near the top of the standings, you're going to get a good game from everybody," added Blaylock.
