Men Tied For Third, Women In Seventh

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's men's team is tied for third place after the day two of the Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Championships through six scored events while the women are in seventh after seven scored events.
Wichita State leads the men's side with 77 points followed by Indiana State (36). The Salukis are tied at 26 points with Illinois State. Drake is in fifth (10), SMS sixth (7), and UNI seventh (3).
SMS leads the women's side with 55 points. Indiana State has 49, UNI 44, Wichita State 34, and Illinois State 19. Bradley is in sixth with 9, followed by SIU (4), and Drake (3).
Dayton Johnson placed third in the triple jump with a career best and regional qualifying mark of 49-9. Eli Baker also earned third place points in the 3000m steeplechase improving upon his regional qualifying mark (9:09.87).
Freshman Freddy Rule picked up two points finishing fifth in the decathlon with 5,245 points.
SIU qualified eight for tomorrow's finals in prelims today. Felix Anderson ran a career best in the 400m improving upon his regional qualifying time (46.42) as did B.J. Davis (47.23). Kevin Mills finished third in the 100m (10.73). Marvin Primo (10.78) and Emmanuele Parris (10.88) were seventh and ninth in the 100m. Anderson, Primo, and Mills all qualified for the 200m. Anderson was clocked in a career best 21.38. Primo and Mills finished in 21.39 and 21.72, respectively.
SIU's women scored two points today. Venisha Williams notched a sixth place finish in the discus with a toss of 138-1. Laura Grafton was sixth in the heptathlon with a score of 2,621 points.
The Saluki women have five qualified for finals tomorrow. Noa Beitler and Ty Davis were third (2:14.42) and sixth (2:15.38) in the 800m Kelsey Toussaint finished sixth in the 400m today in 57.53 and will move to the finals tomorrow. Junior Korto Dunbar ran the second fastest time in the 100m (11.89) to secure a spot in the finals.
Finals action will begin tomorrow with field events beginning at 1 p.m.
