Rankin Named Honorable Mention All-MVC Scholar-Athlete

Carbondale, Ill. - Junior Amy Rankin was named to the 2003 Missouri Valley Conference women's golf scholar-athlete team, announced today by the league office. Rankin was one of four women's golfers to garner honorable mention honors, in addition to the six first-team selections.
Rankin, a native of Decatur, Ill., carries a 3.59 GPA in Radio/Television. She played in all 10 tournaments for the Salukis, where she posted a second-best 81.5 stroke average. Rankin also registered six scores in the 70s over a total of 25 rounds. Additionally, she placed among the top-15 individuals in each of her last four tournaments.
The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the Verizon/CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's rounds or played at the Missouri Valley Championship.
A total of 22 student-athletes were nominated for women's golf scholar-athlete honors. Golf sports information directors in the conference voted for the award.
