Women's Basketball Completes 2003-04 Schedule

CARBONDALE, Ill. - It's been nearly a decade since Southern Illinois University women's basketball has been on Missouri Valley Conference-produced regular season television. All told, that's about to change this year, as the Salukis put the finishing touches on their 2003-04 schedule earlier today.
Highlighting the Salukis' MVC slate is a television matchup against Evansville on Jan. 10. The game is scheduled to air live at 5:05 p.m., CST, on Fox Sports Midwest.
After opening the season with seven of its nine non-conference games on the road, the Jan. 10th TV game could be a solid momentum-builder for SIU. It marks one of five home games the Salukis play in their first seven league contests. SIU tips off its 18-game Valley season on Saturday, Jan. 3 when it hosts Drake.
This year marks only SIU's second appearance on MVC regular season television. Even better than that, the league telecast will be the first produced from SIU Arena.
The last time the Salukis were on MVC regular season television was on Feb. 19, 1994. That year, SIU beat Illinois State, 76-61, in Normal, Ill.
Also, since the MVC-Gateway merger, the Dawgs appeared one other time, on ESPN. That game was played at the Hammons Center in Springfield, Mo., where SMS beat SIU, 65-58, on Jan. 8, 1993.
In addition to those two contests, SIU has played in MVC TV games that took place at the league tournament on three occasions. All semi-final matchups, SIU fell to Drake, 82-68, on March 10, 1995; SIU lost to Illinois State, 64-59, on March 8, 1996; and SIU was defeated by Drake, 77-48, on March 7, 1997.
