Volleyball Loses To Iowa 3-2 At Saluki Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Freshman setter Holly Marita's triple-double (51 assists, 12 digs,10 kills) and double-double performances by senior Kelly Harman (18 kills, 11 digs) and freshman Ashley Saverine (14 kills, 17 digs) couldn't stop SIU from losing to Iowa 3-2 (30-27, 30-14, 28-30, 24-30, 9-15) in the final match of the 24th Saluki Invitational on Saturday at Davies Gym.
Marita also led SIU with a .391 hitting percentage (10 kills, one error, 23 attempts) in the loss to tournament runner-up Iowa (2-1). Junior libero Erica Miller added 18 digs. The Salukis outhit Iowa .208 to .139 and had a season-high 10 blocks for the season.
SIU's Haley Hann was named to the Saluki Invitational All-Tournament Team, joining Austin Peay's Sarah Schramka, Iowa's Jitka Stehnoba and Tiana Costanzo, and Denver's Olympia Hughes, Andrea Barron and tournament MVP Lisa Hunter.
The Salukis will take their first road trip of the year next week when they compete at the Duke Invitational September 5-6 at Duke University in Durham, N.C.
