CARBONDALE, Ill. - Saluki men's cross country is giving people reason to look its way as they broke into the 2003 Midwest Region Polls at #11 this week.
The poll, which is voted on by the United State Cross Country Coaches Association (USCCCA), places Iowa and Oklahoma State as the top two picks in the Midwest Region. The Salukis, who were not ranked in the preseason poll, found a spot on this week's poll after not being ranked at all for many years.
Southern Illinois, along with Northern Iowa at #12 and Drake at #15 in the Midwest, were the only three Missouri Valley Conference schools ranked in their respective regions in this week's poll. The University of Alabama, which narrowly defeated SIU last week at the Crimson Classic, was ranked fifth in the South Central region.
SIU returns to action Oct. 11 when it hosts the annual Saluki Invitational.
