CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University dropped to 0-4 at home this season after Bradley swept the Salukis 3-0 in Davies Gym on Friday night. SIU (3-10, 0-3 MVC) lost its first home match since August 30, after nine straight road matches. Bradley (5-10, 2-1 MVC) beat the Salukis 30-26, 30-22, 30-23 and held SIU to just two blocks, tying a season-low.
"They played great defense and that started to frustrate us, and that will change with maturity. I thought we hit the ball well early on, but we have to be able to sustain that and not just for four or five points. We have the talent to win games but we have to focus on our ball control and doing it consistently. We hit around their block and hit well in game one, but we couldn't control the ball and sustain that level. We have to believe that we can win," said Sonya Locke, SIU head coach.
Haley Hann led the Salukis with 12 kills and hit .308 (12k, 4e, 26att) for the match. Ashley Saverine added five kills and without an error and five digs. Holly Marita chipped in 30 assists and five digs and Carrie Shephard hit .375 (4k, 1e, 8att) with a block assist. Kelly Katricka led the defense with eight digs. Bradley had seven blocks to SIU's two.
The Salukis host #10 Northern Iowa on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Davies Gym.
