NORMAL, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's women's golf team finished eighth out of 12 teams at the ISU Redbird Classic which ended earlier today. The Salukis turned in a three-round score of 949.

SIU struggled to a 325 in its first round of play, but improved by 13 strokes to end the tournament with back-to-back 312s.

Senior Megan Tarrolly tied for 12th to lead all Saluki golfers. Tarrolly, who competed as an individual, shot a pair of 78s and a 76, but her scores did not count toward SIU's team total.

Of SIU's top-five qualifiers, however, Stefanie Pate led with a 234. The native of Carbondale turned in a 82, a 78 and a 74 en route to tying for 19th. Tiffany Fritsche tied for 24th to also help pace the Dawgs.

Missouri (900) posted a seven-stroke win over tourney host Illinois State (907). SMU (910), Iowa (928) and SW Missouri State (942) then rounded out the top-five, respectively.

SIU returns to action at the Minnesota Invitational on Sept. 20-21.
