JONESBORO, Ark.- On day two of the Arkansas State Lady Indian Classic, the weather cleared up for the Southern Illinois University women's golf team, and the Salukis shot a 314 to finish third in the 17-team tournament.
Sophomore Kelly Gerlach shot a 75 tie for first, but lost in a play-off and finished second in the tournament.
"Kelly played well," said head coach Diane Daugherty. "She shot a 40 and fought back to shoot a 35 on the second nine."
Natalie Parker (77) finished tied for third for the Salukis while Stefanie Pate and Samantha Sutzer each shot 81, tying for 30th. Christine Zoerlein shot an 86 to finish tied for 61st while Josie Lowder (81) competed individually, tying Pate and Sutzer for 30th place.
After playing three holes on Monday only to have the rest of the day cancelled, the team bounced back on day two to finish behind North Texas (309) and Texas State (313). Texas Pan American (317) finished fourth and Northern Iowa (319) finished fifth.
"The course was still wet today, but it didn't rain at all," said Daugherty. "The team played well under the conditions. Weather is just one of those things, and sometimes it's tough to lose a day."
SIU finishes their fall schedule Oct. 26-27, when they travel to Honolulu, Hawaii for the Kent Youel Invitational.
