EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Sarah Rinker ran the fastest 5K time of any female Saluki this season, as Southern Illinois won its second team title earlier today at the Evansville Invitational. The Dawgs finished among the top-two teams for their second straight meet.
Rinker, who finished second out of 91 runners, registered a 17:39.71 mark to beat teammate Brittani Christensen's 17:50, the Salukis' previous 5K season-best. Christensen did not run in today's meet.
Three other Salukis, including Lindsay Wagner (17:58:18), Shelby Brice (18:04.73) and Cherylynn Schilling (18:05.83) also finished in the top-10. Wagner was sixth, Brice finished eighth and Schilling placed ninth.
SIU collected 29 points thanks to its four top-10 individual performers. Valparaiso (52 pts.), Creighton (70 pts.), Lipscomb (87 pts.) and host Evansville (138 pts.) rounded out the top-five teams.
