OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton (11-4, 3-3 MVC) hit .296 as a team and held SIU's top hitter, Marissa Washington, to three kills and a .000 hitting percentage (3 kills, 3 errors, 11 attempts) in a 3-0 sweep of the Salukis on Saturday in the Omaha Civic Center.
"We struggled as a team tonight. We couldn't get any momentum on offense or defense in the match. Creighton played good defense and did a good job on Marisa (Washington). We'll head back home and try to get better before we pay on Tuesday, said Sonya Locke, SIU head coach.
Washington was ranked seventh (.316) in the MVC in attack percentage to start the weekend. As a team, the Salukis (4-11, 2-3 MVC) were held to a .168 attack percentage in the 30-20, 30-21, 30-26 loss. SIU had a season-low 107 attempts and had less digs (48 to 46) than its opponents for just the third time all season and second straight match.
SIU ends the weekend with an 0-2 record after losses to seventh-place Creighton and last place Drake, extending Southern Illinois' losing streak to five matches.
