CARBONDALE, ILL. - After two weeks off, the Southern Illinois University women's golf team travels to Jonesboro, Ark., for the Arkansas State Lady Indian Classic. The 16-team tournament will take place Mon.-Tue. Oct. 11-12 at the Jonesboro Country Club.
The field includes several teams from Texas, as well as Western Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, St. Louis and MVC rival Northern Iowa, who edged the Salukis by six strokes at the season-opening Illinois State Redbird Classic.
"I'm confident heading into this tournament," said head coach Diane Daugherty. "This is our second trip to Arkansas, so the returning golfers are familiar with the course."
The Salukis finished sixth out of 13 teams in last year's tournament.
SIU is coming off of a seventh place finish at the Bay Tree Classic at Myrtle Beach, S.C. two weeks ago. Kelly Gerlach led the way, shooting a personal best 225 to finish tied for ninth at the 17-team tournament.
"Our goal, as it is every tournament, is to keep our team scores around 305 each round," said Daugherty. "If we can keep our scores around our goal, we have a shot."
