CARBONDALE, Ill. - Northern Iowa (10-6, 4-2 MVC) continued its domination of Southern Illinois (4-13, 2-4 MVC) with a 3-0 sweep on Friday, extending its winning streak to 24 straight matches against the Salukis. The loss extended SIU's losing streak to seven matches.
Trailing just 28-27 in game one, SIU won the point, but served out of order, giving the Panthers the point and a 29-27 lead instead of a 28-28 tie. The two-point swing led to a 30-27 win for UNI in game one.
The Salukis led 6-5 in game two, but Northern Iowa dominated from that point on, winning the final two games 30-21 and 30-18 to beat the Salukis in three games.
SIU was held to a .101 attack percentage, while the Panthers hit .273 as a team and became just the third team to have more digs than Southern Illinois in a match (43 to 39). UNI had 14 blocks to just five for the Salukis.
Jaime Hinsenkamp's seven kills led the attack and Holly Marita's .333 (4 kills, 1 error, 9 attempts) led all SIU hitters. Marita added 24 assists and Ashley Saverine's 11 digs paced the defense.
The dawgs will face last place Bradley on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Davies Gym.
