Men's Tennis Loses To DePaul, 3-4

CHICAGO, Ill. - It was the cap of a weekend the men's tennis team would like to forget as the Salukis finished out their three-day road trip with a loss to DePaul on Sunday afternoon. SIU lost 3-4 to the Blue Demons, making its record 3-4 after two weeks of dual competition and three straight losses.
The two squads squared off their doubles teams to start the meet, which turned out to be the difference in the DePaul victory. The Salukis lost all three matches giving their opponent the one point advantage going into the singles.
Senior Peter Bong pushed his team in a positive direction defeating Mark Henderson, 6-2, 7-5, at the No. 1 spot, but the Blue Demons came roaring back taking wins at the No. 2, 3 and 4 positions. That left the score 4-1 in favor of DePaul.
With that in mind, junior Julian Angel Botero and sophomore Tomas Gonzalez still pulled out victories at the No. 5 and 6 spots, respectively. Botero took Radek Guzik to a third set after losing the first, ultimately winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Gonzalez followed suit, defeating Will Wang in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, after also losing the first set.
SIU will return to action Feb. 28 at home to face Murray State after three weeks off. Results can be found at www.SIUSalukis.com.
