CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University head baseball coach Dan Callahan announced today that Ryan Terry will join the Salukis in 2005. A right-handed pitcher, Terry hails from Palmyra, Mich.
Terry is currently a senior at Blissfield High School and stands at 6-3, 215. Prior to this year, he capped off his junior campaign with a 10-2 record. Also boasting a 1.49 ERA, he struck out 101 batters to 31 walks in 79.2 innings.
Named first-team all-conference, all-county, all-district and all-region, Terry helped his school to back-to-back Division III State Championships as both a sophomore and junior. Those teams registered a combined 71-14-1 record (40-4 in 2002; 31-10-1 in 2003).
"We're excited about Ryan becoming a Saluki," said Callahan. "I had a chance to see him myself in a fall showcase and was impressed with his abilities and mound presence. We think he has the tools to be a good pitcher."
Terry appears to have excellent pitching intelligence and is mentally tough. He also has a strong work ethic and is a good team player. His hard work shows in the classroom as well, where he carries a 3.94 GPA, and ranks eighth out of 105 students in his class.
In addition to Terry, the Saluki coaching staff will look to sign one or two more pitchers and a catcher. As of now, SIU's 2005 recruiting class consists of Terry, Dean Cadermartori (OF, Norridge, Ill.), Matt DeLong (OF, Jackson, Wis.), Ryan Hypke (SS/2B, Glenarm, Ill.) and Dylan Ward (P/INF, Fairbury, Ill.).
