Men Second, Women Fourth at Memphis Cross Country Twilight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Junior Joe Byrne finished third out of 137 runners to lead the Southern Illinois University men's cross country team to a second-place finish earlier tonight at the Memphis Twilight.
Byrne ran a time of 19:36.14 in the men's four-mile run, which began at 9 p.m., this evening. He finished behind Harding University's Peter Kosgei (19:09.82) and Pilgrimage TC's Jacob Rotich (19:33.45).
In addition to Byrne, Diarmuid Grant (15th, 20:21.40), Tony Lachiana (20th, 20:27.88), Kyle Monroe (27th, 20:54.83), Rob Duncan (28th, 20:57.11), Hunter Sheldon (34th, 21:06.11), Jason Brosseau (56th, 21:52.75) and Thomas Gentry (70th, 22:24.58) also raced.
The Salukis collected 85 points and finished behind Harding (42). Mississippi State was a close third with 86 tallies. Seventeen teams competed in the event.
On the women's side, freshman Jessica Ordway placed ninth with a 17:31.26 to lead SIU to a fourth-place showing. The Salukis accumulated 88 points, and finished behind meet champion Mississippi State (58), UAB (61) and Eastern Kentucky (87).
Ordway was joined by Lindsay Wagner (12th, 17:42.45) and Sarah Rinker (15th, 17:51.95), who also finished in the top-20.
Shelby Brice (27th, 18:18.93), Noa Beitler (30th, 18:31.70), Cherylynn Schilling (36th, 18:51.70), Katie Birn (39th, 18:54.53), Heather Smudde (45th, 19:02.60) and Ty-Nica Davis (59th, 19:34) also participated.
