NORMAL,ILL. - Southern Illinois University sits in fourth place out of nine teams competing at the Illinois State Redbird Classic.
The Salukis shot a 316-319--635 for the first day of play. The host team Illinois State (605) has a 22 shot lead followed by Northern Iowa and Bradley tied for second with 627.
Individually, sophomore Kelly Gerlach shot a 76-79--155 and is tied for sixth. Samantha Sutzer (78-80--158) is tied for 13th, while newcomer Josie Lowder is tied for 20th. Stephanie Pate (80-82--162) sits tied for 25th after day one, and Natalie Parker (91-84--175) is tied for 44th.
SIU finishes tournament play at the Redbird Classic with a final round of 18 holes today.
