CARBONDALE, Ill. - Down 14-13 in game five and staring at match point, Southern Illinois (3-5, 1-0 MVC) scored four of the next five points to beat defending MVC champion SMS 30-26, 27-30, 30-27, 25-30, 17-15 in the Valley opener for both teams on Friday at Davies Gym.
"I'm so happy. This was a huge win for us. It was a great team effort and a well-balanced attack. We made some changes defensively and I'm very excited that the team accepted those changes and ran with them tonight. The team trusted the staff tonight and we won the match," said an excited Sonya Locke, SIU head coach.
