KIRKWOOD, Mo. - Southern Illinois had an impressive offensive display with 39 runs over the weekend, finishing with a perfect 5-0 record at the Reverse College Exposure Tournament in Kirkwood, Mo.
SIU beat Missouri-Rolla (5-0), Truman State (9-0), Eastern Illinois (9-1), SEMO (8-0) and Saint Louis (8-4) to improve to 8-1 in the fall.
"I thought we really adjusted from last weekend and hit the tar out of the ball. We played well in all phases of the game and I'm proud of a bunch of kids. Kelly Creek, Katie Louis, Samantha Carter and our freshman really hit the ball well, regardless of the various lineups we used," SIU head coach Kerri Blaylock said.
Creek led the Saluki attack, going 9-for-14 with a double and three RBI. Jordan (6-for-11, 3 doubles, 2 RBI), Carter (5-for-15, 2 doubles, HR, 3 RBI), Amanda Clifton (5-for-10, double, 3 RBI), Maria Damico (4-for-12, double, 3 runs), Lauren Roney (4-for-11, double, RBI) and Louis (4-for-9, 5 RBI, 3 BB) led the veteran hitters.
Tiffanie Dismore (5-for-10, double, 4 RBI), Becky Wegmann (3-for-11, double, 3 RBI) and Chelsea Petty (HR, 3 RBI) led the newcomers.
The Saluki pitching staff allowed just five runs in the five games. Cassidy Scoggins (2-0) threw a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in the 5-0 win over Missouri-Rolla and also picked up a win in the 8-4 defeat of St. Louis.
Amy Harre (2-0) threw a two-hitter in the 9-0 win over Truman State and allowed four hits in the 8-0 five-inning shutout of SEMO. Harre had 11 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched. Ashley Hamby (1-0) allowed just two hits and struck out eight in the 9-1 win over Eastern Illinois.
