Missouri Valley Conference Just Read Program Begins Wednesday

CARBONDALE, ILL. - Southern Illinois University student-athletes will participate in the first Missouri Valley Conference Just Read Program of the 2004-05 school year Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at Giant City Elementary School. The event will take place from 11:00-11:45am.
The Just Read Program is a community outreach effort between the Missouri Valley Conference, its member schools and student-athletes, State Farm Insurance and its agents. The primary goal of the program is to promote the importance of reading at an early age and to stimulate educational growth while utilizing Missouri Valley Conference student-athletes as positive role models.
At least five times during the 2004-05 academic year, SIU student-athletes will visit local elementary schools. Student-athletes will read books to elementary school students and convey the importance of reading in their personal development toward athletic and academic success.
