Byrne named MVC Cross Country Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS - For the second week in a row, Southern Illinois University senior Joe Byrne has earned Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors, the MVC announced Tuesday.
Byrne picks up the recognition after the Patrick Down, N. Ireland native ran a season-best 24:40.70 in the Open Race at the Pre-Nationals, hosted by Indiana State University last weekend.
Byrne finished fourth in the race, leading the Salukis to a sixth-place finish.
Not only was his time a season-best for himself, but Byrne's time is also the fastest in the 8K in the MVC this fall.
Byrne also picked up MVC Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 5 - 11, after his inidvidual title at the Saluki Invitational.
SIU ended its regular season last weekend at the Pre-Nationals. The Salukis will take this week off before returning to action Oct. 29 at the State Farm MVC Championship in Evansville, Ind.
