CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Women's Golf team is gearing up for the last tournament of the year. The Salukis will travel to Clarksville, Tenn. for the Austin Peay Invitational October 24-25. The tournament takes place at the Clarksville Country Club (par 71, 5,990 yards).
The 36-hole tournament will consist of 18-holes on Monday followed by another round of 18-holes on Tuesday.
This is the first trip for the Salukis to the Austin Peay Invitational, so head Coach Diane Daugherty is not sure what to expect.
"I know there will be some good schools there, a lot a Tennessee schools are in the tournament," said Daugherty. "The competition will be good, but it won't be as tough as some of our other tournaments, like the Shootout at the Legends."
The tournament features 17 teams including: Belmont, Butler, Dayton, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, IUPUI, Lipscomb, Murray State, St. Louis, Samford, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Western Kentucky and WSU.
Many of the schools will be new competition for the Salukis, including Wichita State.
"It will be good to play WSU, a Missouri Valley Conference team, because we haven't faced them in any of our other tournaments yet," said Daugherty. "We are looking forward to finishing out our fall season on a high note."
The team of Natalie Parker, Samantha Sutzer, Josie Lowder, Christine Zoerlein and Braidy Hood will look to improve their scores in their final tournament of the fall season. Currently the stroke averages are very close among the five golfers that have represented SIU in all of the tournaments this year. Parker leads the team with a stroke average of 78.3. Sutzer is just a stroke behind at 79.3. Lowder's stroke average is 79.4. Hood follows with 79.7 and Zoerlein rounds out the top five with 79.9.
