ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Three Saluki linemen -- guard Jimmy Wegerer, offensive tackle Darren Marquez and defensive end Lorenzo Wims -- were named to the Gateway Conference's All-Newcomer team, the league office announced Wednesday.
Youngstown State RB Marcus Mason is the first Penguin to earn the league's Newcomer of the Year honor, while Illinois State DB Tom Nelson is the second Redbird to earn the league's seven-year-old Freshman of the Year honor.
The duo heads a list of 22 student-athletes named to the 2005 Gateway All-Newcomer Team. Gateway coaches, sports information directors and a media panel selected the team. The top 11 vote-getters on offense and defense were named to the team.
