Southern Illinois can win the Gateway Conference outright and secure the league's automatic playoff bid with a victory against Northern Iowa (6-3, 4-2) Saturday at the UNI Dome. The game will be televised live by Mediacom cable. The announcers for the game are Mike Trude and Thad Jackson, and kickoff is at 5 p.m.
For a school-record 33rd-straight week, the Saluki football team is ranked in the top 10 in the nation, checking in at #4 in this week's Sports Network poll. Southern Illinois (7-2, 5-1) has been ranked in the top 10 every week dating back to Oct. 6, 2003.
For the first time in school history, the Salukis have won three-straight conference championships (2003, 2004, 2005). They clinched at least a share of the Gateway Conference title with Saturday's win over Youngstown State.
