PEORIA, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's basketball team went on a 17-5 run in the final five minutes of the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome Bradley, as the Salukis (3-19, 1-12) fell to the Braves (13-8, 6-6) 70-60 in Missouri Valley Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Robertson Field House.
Danette Jones led the Salukis with 17 points, while India Bruster chipped in 12 points and five boards.
SIU kept the Braves' lead to single digits throughout the first half before Bradley pulled away to lead by 11 at half time, 36-25.
The Salukis were held to 10 points throughout the first 12 minutes of the second half, while the Braves led by as many as 22 with 10 minutes left to play.
Keyed by a Danette Jones 3-pointer with just over five minutes to play, the Salukis capitalized on Braves' miscues to go on a 17-5 run to pull the game to 10 at the final buzzer.
The Salukis were out-rebounded by the Braves 40-28, including 16 offensive boards Bradley used to score 19 second-chance points.
Braves center Dena Williams, grabbed 17 rebounds that she complimented with 15 points. Genny Mueller was Bradley's leading scorer with 17.
Southern Illinois will travel to Evansville, Ind., Feb. 19 to take on the Purple Aces before heading back to Carbondale for their final home stand of the season against Indiana State and Illinois State Feb. 25 and 27 respectively.
