Ukabam and Milleville to Compete at NCAA Indoor Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University track and field athletes Amarachi Ukabam and Mark Milleville will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships Mar. 11-12 at the Tyson Indoor Track Complex. Ukabam is automatically qualified in the women's shot put and weight throw, while Milleville made the cut after provisionally qualifying in the men's weight.
Ukabam will be competing for the second consecutive year after earning All-American status in both events in 2004 while competing for Ohio State. Since joining the Salukis, she has surpassed her career-best marks in both events this season while breaking the SIU all-time record, the Missouri Valley Conference all-time record, the MVC meet record and the SIU Recreation Center track record. Her season-best toss of 71-03.50 in the weight currently ranks her fifth in the nation heading into the championships. The junior ranks sixth in the shot with a season-best mark of 55-06.25.
Milleville will be making his first appearance at the Indoor Championships. Currently ranked 15th in the nation with a toss of 67-11.75, the senior owns the second-best effort in SIU history in the weight.
Competition will begin Friday at 9 a.m. with the men's weight throw starting at 12 p.m. followed by the women's shot at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the women's weight throw will begin at 2 p.m. Final results will be available at www.siusalukis.com following each day of competition.
