Men's Tennis Pulls Out 4-3 Win Over Drake

CARBONDALE, IL. - The Salukis pulled out a big victory today at the SIU Arena Tennis Courts, as SIU handed a very solid Drake Bulldogs team, their first Missouri Valley Conference loss of the year.
The Salukis got off to an early lead as they captured the doubles point, with Rodrigo Lama and Tomas Gonzalez teaming up to notch a win at the No. 2 doubles spot, while Alex Nomicos and Sergio Sanchez picked up a win over DU's Chris Leuth and Dave Iancu at the No. 3 doubles position.
After picking up the doubles point it was SIU's bottom half of their lineup that came through to seal the victory for the Dawgs. Rodrigo Lama led the way for the Salukis as he defeated Dalibar Pavic (6-4, 6-3) at the No. 2 singles spot. Following Lama's lead Bojan Ilievski and Lukasz Soswa notched wins for Southern at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots.
With today's win the Salukis improve to 7-8 on the year and picked up their first MVC win of the year. Drake falls to 8-5 on the year with a 3-1 mark in MVC play.
SIU will be back in action tomorrow as they host the Creighton Bluejays, in their last home match of the year. The match will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the SIU Arena Tennis courts.
