Cross Country teams remain in regional top 10

CARBONDALE, Ill. - After finishing runner-up at the Lakefront Invitational last weekend, the Southern Illinois University men's and women's cross country teams find themselves both ranked in the top 10 in the Midwest Region.
Voted on by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, SIU's men's team is ranked No. 8 in the Midwest Region while the women are ranked No. 10.
The Midwest Region covers all NCAA Division I teams in Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
In the men's rankings, the Salukis are the top Missouri Valley Conference team. The women's team is the third Valley team in its poll, trailing Wichita State (No. 7) and Missouri State (No. 8).
The Salukis continue their 2006 season on Saturday, Oct. 7 with the Saluki Invitational. The meet will take place at SIU's cross country course in Carbondale, Ill. The women are scheduled for a 5K beginning at 10 a.m. while the men will run a 8K at 10:45 a.m.
