Football places seven on Gateway's Academic All-Conference Team

CARBONDALE, Ill.-Nick Hill, Braden Jones, Andrew Kernes, J.T. Wise, Ryan Beeler, Jon Cairns and Trevor Moe represent Southern Illinois University on the 2006 Gateway Academic All-Conference Football Team, the league office announced today.
Hill and Jones were named first-team, while Kernes and Wise garnered second-team honors. Beeler, Cairns and Moe were voted honorable mention.
A native of DuQuoin, Ill., Hill carries a 3.25 grade point average in Special Education. Jones, a local product out of Harrisburg, Ill., boasts a 3.61 GPA in Biological Sciences.
Kernes hails from Bloomington, Ill., and holds a 3.47 GPA in Biological Sciences. Wise (Farmersville, Ill.), also a first-team Academic All-District V selection, has a 3.20 GPA in Physical Education.
Beeler is from Taylorville, Ill., and has a 3.33 GPA in Chemistry. Cairns, who hails from Blue Springs, Mo., holds a 3.79 GPA in Engineering Technology. And, Moe, a native of Garrett, Ind., carries a 3.03 GPA in Physical Education.
A total of 34 student-athletes, including 11 who earned first-team honors, highlight this year's Gateway all-academic team.
Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at their institutions (freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution. League sports information directors voted on the team by designating 11 players for first-team honors and 11 players for second-team honors.
