Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University and A Gift of Love Charity teamed up for their first annual coat drive prior to the football game against Southern Utah on Nov. 18.
"SIU's Alumni responded, donating 100 coats and $532, which will allow us to give away more coats than we ever expected," Chastity Mays, spokeswoman for A Gift of Love, said. "We will be able to allow children to pick out the coats that they want. This was a great help for the charity."
The coats will be distributed to children at Parrish school, The Good Samaritan Home and The Women's Center.
"The coat drive was a good community service activity that will help several children in the Southern Illinois area stay warm for the winter," Brooke Morgan, Coordinator of Life Skills/ Academic Counselor, said. "The women's tennis team and the volleyball team donated a coat to the charity as well."
