Berwanger, Yutzy earn Academic All-District V honors

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois volleyball players Kristie Berwanger and Johannah Yutzy were named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Five third team CoSIDA announced Thursday.
Berwanger, a Lake Zurich, Ill. native, carries a 4.0 grade point average in fashion design merchandising. The outside hitter is second on the team this season averaging 2.82 kills and 2.57 digs per game. She has 248 kills on the season, hitting .126 with 8 service aces and 47 blocks. She has started all 25 matches this season, playing in all 88 games.
A senior from Plain City, Ohio, Yutzy has maintained a 3.25 GPA in marketing. The middle blocker is leading the team with 3.18 kills per game. She also has 41 digs and 80 blocks on the season. In three tournaments this season, Yutzy was named to the all-tournament team. She has started all 25 matches and played in all 88 games.
Each student-athlete nominated must maintain a 3.2 GPA and be sophomore in academic and athletic standing. They must also compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
