SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Even though the SIU softball team's record only shows two losses, the weather keeps beating the Salukis time and time again.
Rain again made its way through San Jose and the Bay Area overnight, drenching the rain-battered fields at the Twin Creeks Sports Complex and delaying Sunday's games of the National Invitational Softball Tournament.
Southern Illinois' games are pushed back two hours for Sunday. The Salukis will take on #6/7 California at 1 p.m. CT and San Jose State at 5 p.m. CT.
SIU is now 13-2 on the season after going 1-1 in Saturday's games. Southern was in a pool with #10/11 Arizona State and UC Davis. The Sun Devils went 2-0 Saturday, beating SIU 2-0 and UC Davis 8-1.
The Salukis beat UC Davis 5-4 in eight innings to pick up their win.
California won its first game Saturday, beating Santa Clara 7-1. The Golden Bears' game against Colorado State was called in the fifth inning with the score tied 1-1 because of rain.
San Jose State also went 1-1 in Saturday's games. The Spartans beat St. Francis (NY) 13-0 in five innings, but fell to Iowa 3-2.
Though originally scheduled to conclude Sunday, because of the rain cancellations some teams have scheduled games for Monday. SIU has scheduled a game against North Dakota State on Monday with the time yet to be determined.
