CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois football player Nick Hill has been selected to participate in the 2006 NCAA Leadership Conference held in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. in May.
Hill, a sophomore who played back-up quarterback for the Salukis last season, was one of 352 student-athletes selected from a pool of 1,319 nominations.
The annual leadership conference was created by the NCAA in 1996 to provide a diverse group of the nation's top student-athletes an opportunity to actively participate in activities that will enable them to become better leaders on their campuses and in their communities.
"We are honored to have Nick represent Southern Illinois," Assistant Athletic Director Kristina Therriault said. "He is a great ambassador for our student athletes and will do an excellent job."
Each school nominated four student-athletes who have demonstrated an ability or strong desire to be leaders and would benefit from a significant leadership experience. In order to be eligible, applicants must be in good academic standing and must have athletics eligibility remaining in the following academic year.
Former Saluki quarterback Joel Sambursky represented the SIU athletic department in 2003.
The 2006 conference will be held at Disney's Yacht Beach Club Resort from May 28 through June 1.
