Drake defeats men's tennis 4-3

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team won three singles matches, but it wasn't enough for a victory as Drake walked away with the 4-3 win.
The Salukis lost all three doubles matches giving Drake both the point and the momentum heading into singles play.
SIU won the final three singles matches of the day, but came up one short of the win. Sergio Sanchez lost to Dalibor Pavic 6-3, 6-4, snapping his 13 match win streak.
Andrei Bubnov added to his winning streak when he defeated Jonathan Tishler at the four spot in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Bubnov has won 12 singles matches in a row.
Tomas Gonzalez and Bojan Ilievski were the other two Salukis with singles wins. Both matches took three sets to decide. In the number five game Gonzalez defeated Ivan Mendoza of Drake 3-6, 6-3, 13-11. Ilievski edged Chris Lueth 6-2, 6-7 (6-7), 10-7 in the final match of the day.
The loss drops the Salukis record to 10-7 overall and 1-3 in MVC play. The road trip continues as the Dawgs travel to Creighton for a 10 a.m. Sunday morning match.
