Davis, Ukabam garner MVC track and field weekly honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois' Ty Davis and Amarachi Ukabam were named the Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Davis posted a 2:09.50 in the 800-meter run Saturday to qualify for the NCAA Mideast Regional meet. Davis became the 12th Saluki to qualify, finishing second in her event on the final day of the Vanderbilt Invitational. Her mark ranks first in the MVC this season.
Ukabam posted a new stadium and meet record at the Vandy Invite in the shot put with a season-best toss of 55-08.50 to take the meet title. She also finished third in the discus (161-05) and sixth in the hammer throw (165-09) for the Salukis. The senior currently ranks first in the shot, second in the discus, and fourth in the hammer in the Valley this season. Nationally she's ranked 20th in the discus and 7th in the shot.
This is the first outdoor MVC honor of the season for Davis, she was also named indoor track athlete of the week Jan. 24. Ukabam also earned indoor field honors twice for the Salukis and was named the outdoor field athlete of the week April 4.
