CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois women's basketball player Erin Pauk will represent the Salukis as a member of the Athletes in Action team traveling to France, August 11-20. Pauk will be one of several NCAA Division I level and outstanding NAIA athletes to form an AIA tour team that will train and compete in France with high-level women's club teams.
"I think this is a great opportunity for Erin," Saluki head coach Dana Eikenberg said. "It gives her a chance to expand her basketball skills, in addition to having the life experience of traveling abroad, meeting new people and strengthening her faith."
According to the AIA website, the program, founded in 1966, is a ministry that uses the platform of sport to share the message of Jesus Christ to millions of men, women, and children around the world. Included ministry efforts of AIA are to college and professional athletes and coaches.
Pauk is one of three Missouri Valley Conference players to play with the AIA team. Others include Angie Janis from Creighton and Antionette Wells of Wichita State.
"I think this is an awesome opportunity," Pauk said. "This trip will allow me to use my talents in basketball and my faith - my two favorite things."
Pauk's progress will be tracked in a daily diary from her trip through France at www.siusalukis.com.
