CARBONDALE, Ill. - Season-ticket sales for Southern Illinois University football have reached an all-time high, the Saluki athletics department announced Wednesday.
Earlier this week, the Saluki ticket office surpassed last-year's record-breaking total of 2,044 season tickets sold. As of the end of business on Wednesday, ticket manager Brad Pietz reported that 2,094 season tickets have been sold.
When head coach Jerry Kill took over the program in 2001, season ticket sales were slightly more than 500, meaning sales have quadrupled during his five seasons at the helm.
"I always believed that if we put a good product on the field, the people of Southern Illinois would support us," Kill said. "Our fans have never let us down, and we can't wait to play in front of them tomorrow."
SIU kicks off the 2006 season against Lock Haven at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. Fans may continue to buy 2006 season tickets through the next home game on Sept. 30, against Indiana State. Tickets are available by calling the ticket office at 618-453-2000 or by ordering on-line.
