Burris named MVC Newcomer of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Junior Debbie Burris was named this week's Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
A native of Parsons, Kan., Burris led the Salukis to two impressive conference road wins last week to open MVC play with two wins for the first time since the 1993-94 season. It also propelled SIU to a tie for first place in the league standings.
She averaged 12.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks, shooting 56 percent (9-of-16) from the field, was perfect from the charity stripe and shot 50 percent (5-of-10) from beyond the 3-point line. Burris scored in double figures (14) in a win over Wichita State to open MVC play, adding three assists and three steals, then turned around to score 11, adding four boards in a victory over Missouri State.
Additionally, the Salukis held Missouri State to under 40 points on its home court while sweeping the Wichita State/Missouri State road swing for the first time since 1989. It was also the first time in nine years the Salukis have won at Missouri State.
