Athletic Department Hosts Saluki Scholars Banquet

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Athletic Department hosted the annual Saluki Scholars Banquet Sunday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. in SIU Arena, sponsored by 710 Bookstore.
The banquet, emceed by WSIL Channel 3 sports director Darren Kinnard, honored 159 students-athletes that earned a 3.00 or higher GPA during the 2006-2007 academic year. All sports were represented as well as all colleges including the graduate school. In addition to these student-athletes who were honored for their academic achievement, student-athlete recipients of endowed scholarships and the donors of these scholarships were recognized.
SIUC alumnus and President and CEO of Ace Hardware Corporation Ray Griffith was the keynote speaker as approximately 320 people including student-athletes, coaches, families, university staff and athletic administration were in attendance.
