CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois volleyball dropped its match Northern Iowa in three games, 21-30, 21-30, 18-30, on Senior night at Davies Gym.
Seniors Kari Buelhorn and Trisha Kamphuis were honored prior to the match, which was the final home match of the season for SIU.
The Panthers dominated game one, hitting .320 with just three errors on 50 attempts. The Salukis hit .245 in the first game, committing four errors on 49 attempts.
The Salukis struggled in game two, hitting only .038 with nine errors on 52 attempts. The Panthers posted their lowest hitting percentage of .179 in game two, but managed to post the 30-21 win.
In game three, the Panthers posted a .205 hitting percentage with four errors on 39 attempts. The Salukis hit only .020 for game three, committing 11 errors on 49 attempts.
Kristie Berwanger led the Salukis in kills with nine off of 25 attacks. Kelsie Laughlin led SIU in digs with 16.
Setter Brooklyn Robbins recorded 29 assists in the match. The junior added one service ace and seven digs.
Amy Sampson led the Panthers with 16 kills on 37 attempts. Setter Kristin Belzung led UNI in assists with 36. Laura Rowen posted 20 digs for the Panthers along with 13 kills on 31 attempts.
Despite the loss, head coach Brenda Winkeler was proud of her team's effort against the Panthers.
"I thought we played hard and aggressive," said Winkeler. "We dug 69 balls and they dug 73. They out-blocked us, they're a very big team and right now they're playing very well. I though we stayed with them at points, but that's a team that you can't make a lot of errors against and once we made some errors they capitalized. I was proud of the way we controlled the things we could."
The Salukis will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 16 at Indiana State. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
