TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Southern Illinois junior Mohamed Mohamed represented the Salukis at the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Monday. Mohamed finished 77th out of 250 competitors in the 10K race with a time of 30:58.9.
Mohamed was the first Saluki to compete in the NCAA meet since Joe Byrne ran for SIU in 2005. Mohamed's 77th-place finish was the best of any Saluki competitor at the Championship meet since 1984 when Chris Bunyan finished 21st.
"Mohamed gained valuable experience competing at his first NCAA Championship," said cross country head coach Matt Sparks. "I was impressed with the way he was not intimated by the competition and ran the way he was capable. With this experience under his belt I expect Mohamed to make a run at finishing top 25 his senior year."
