SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Southern Illinois' Kristie Berwanger was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team the league announced Saturday following the conclusion of the tournament championship. No. 2 Northern Iowa defeated No. 5 Illinois State for the title in the Hammons Student Center on the campus of Missouri State Saturday afternoon.
Berwanger was one of nine players on the team led by three players from UNI, and two from Illinois State. The junior right side hitter led the Salukis with an 11 kill, 11 dig effort against Creighton Friday in the opening round of the six-team tournament. She also added one solo and five block assists at the net for SIU.
The Salukis wrapped up their best season in five years with a 15-16 record overall, 7-11 in the MVC. SIU won two of three preseason tournaments and made The Valley post-season tournament for the first time since 2002.
