Volleyball sweeps home tournament, wraps up spring play

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois volleyball team swept the SIU Spring Tournament Saturday, April 21 in Davies Gym. The Salukis beat West Plains, Eastern Illinois and SEMO in Pool A before taking Murray State, the winner of Pool B.
Kristie Berwanger and Chandra Roberson led Southern's offense. Berwanger hit .271, recording 34 kills, 31 digs and eight block assists on the day. Roberson added a team-high 40 kills for a .255 mark. She also put up five solo and 15 block assists, along with seven digs.
Jen Berwanger recorded 19 kills to go with 21 digs, three solo and five block assists. Saluki setter Erica Bartruff led her team in assists with 88, also recording seven kills and 14 digs.
Libero Kristy Elswick recorded a team-high 48 digs and five service aces, while defensive specialist Kari Buehlhorn added 40 digs and four service aces.
The Salukis will open the 2007 fall season at the Morehead State tournament August 24-25.
