Baseball gets two on MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University catcher Mark Kelly and outfielder Kevin Koski garnered first-team Missouri Valley Scholar-Athlete honors, the league announced today.
Kelly graces the league's academic team for the first time, while Koski earns first-team honors for the third year in a row.
Kelly, who hails from Hanover Park, Ill., was named first-team all-MVC after hitting .379 with 28 runs scored, 13 doubles, two home runs and 63 RBI in 56 starts behind the plate. He ranked among conference leaders in batting average (2nd), hits (2nd, 88) and RBI (1st).
A History major who carries a 3.08 GPA, Kelly ranked nationally in batting average (76th) and RBI (32nd), and at one time, strung together a 21-game hitting streak which tied for the longest in the league this year.
A native of Schaumburg, Ill., Koski finished a remarkable Saluki career hitting .296 with 45 runs, nine doubles, a triple and 13 RBI. He ranked second on the team with 11 stolen bases and fell one hit shy of tying SIU's all-time career record in hits.
Koski ranks among SIU career leaders in hits, games played, at-bats, runs scored, hit by pitch, walks and total bases. He holds a 3.40 GPA in Physical Education.
A total of 36 student-athletes were nominated for the scholar-athlete team.
